Les Kaufman is Associate Professor of Biology in the Marine Program at Boston University.
Professor Kaufman's research interests focus on conservation ecology, evolution and behavior of fish populations. His current projects include: (1) an analysis of the evolution of fish species in the Great Lakes region of East Africa with a special focus on Lake Victoria, and (2) a comparison of skeletal plasticity across various types of fishes, both for a better understanding of their evolution and interactions, and for a better understanding of human bone disease.
In the applied side of his research, Prof. Kaufman is working on ways to preserve and restore the indigenous species of tropical lakes and coral reefs, and studying the demographics of nursery areas in the Georges Bank Fishery.
