Margolus Dynamics: 1-D Cellular Automaton

by Gavin Crooks

This is a one dimensional deterministic Margolus dynamics where each cell can have four possibilities. The rule is a mapping of two adjacent cells onto their next values. There are sixteen possible states of the pair of cells so the rule is a mapping of each of the sixteen states onto what it is turned into. The rule is specified to the left in the panel above. Four colors (black, red, blue and green) are the four states of a cell. By clicking on the right pair in each row you can change the rule even while the CA is running and see the effect of the change.
